Introduction to
Chicago: The Roarin' 20's
Vampire: The Masquerade

The masters of the city have kept their hold over the Kine from behind their curtain of shadows and duplicity.  It is with sheer tenacity and their ability to hold influence throughout the span of multiple eras that the Camarilla has dominated the landscape of Chicago.

With the hordes of minions and large broods, the Kindred keep control of the Chicago nights, waging their Jyhad as they had for centuries past.  Each Kindred has had to battle it out for her stake in a city whose Domains have been long since claimed by each Clan.  The Toreador clan has made the greatest gains, capitalizing on the mistakes made during the turn of the century which threw the city into chaos.  Now their Prince has consolidated power in a series of swift events that toppled the previous brood like a house of cards, building upon the blood of fallen enemies to create a Domain to rival the richest Domains in North America.  With an iron fist clad in a silken shrewd cunning, the Prince of Chicago creates a prestigious Domain with all the vibrancy of the prosperous era and the majesty of the ages past.

General Info

We have all had our share of experiences role-playing Kindred Characters.  Some of us come from Table Top or from Online or both.  In Chicago: The Roarin' 20's, the Storytellers have decided to create a more stark outlook harkening back to their origins in Table Top play.

The Vampire portion of this Chronicle is based on intrigue associated with the nature of the vampiric condition.  Because of this standard, Chicago: The Roarin' 20's focuses on some basic principles in theme and mood that are often overlooked in online format RPGs like horror, mystery, and tragedy.

In this setting, players can expect to find their characters thrust in a world where the lines between friend and foe are blurred as nothing will ever be as it seems.  They will have to find ways to claw to the top or be trodden down on the bottom.  Issues of Domain, Status, Prestation and Influence will be paramount as it pertains to the Player Characters.  Minions of the strong Camarilla leadership will be at every turn.  They will be watching to see who must be brought down and who to add to their collection of pawns on the eternal chessboard.

In most online games, particularly on AOL, one finds a Player Character occupying most key positions in a city from the outset.  The Storytellers of Chicago: The Roarin' 20's have had experience in both occupying these positions with NPCs and with PCs.  They have found that in populating a city's Camarilla leadership with PCs, difficulties arise from a wide range of areas such as questions of Storyteller integrity, players not being able to meet the demanding commitments of playing a leadership role, as well as issues dealing with character development and role-playing opportunities.  Conversely, at the outset of the 2001 version of the Chronicle, the players met with the Storyteller in order to decide on key issues of Chronicle format.  In that meeting, they requested that elders also be run by experienced players as well as by the Storyteller.  Therefore, all players will have the option to conference with the Storyteller in order to run the rings of fire to see if they have the knowledge, commitment level, and maturity for such an opportunity so long as this option is available.  Others will start with Neonate Characters and the Kindred associated with key positions that have not been taken up by qualified players, will be NPCed by the Storytellers of Chicago: The Roarin' 20's.
